English jokes
-_-||| 发表于 2007-02-07 02:55:45
Since I have began to do a job and been really enjoying talking with colleges, I feel sometimes embarrass about my English.
Well, I am proud of my oral English. I pronounce quite well, standard and no accent; I could say simple sentences in a perfect way. Even I could say that customers' are willing to enquire me. (Well, how could I respond what they are enquiring about, I don’t know most of the goods' names they ask about)
However, I am poor at spelling and only know a limited amount of vocabularies which I still can't spell correctly T_T.
As a result of my bad memory and laziness, I forget names of people all the times and call them someone else by mistake, even when I know who is who, I still pronounce incorrectly. T_T
My grammar became even worse since I lived in the UK, compared with in high school. Well, my major doesn't require me to write essays or discuss with others in English.I had been eager to have seminal classes before I arrived there and started to find that all the staff I need to learn is not related to English at all. Worth or less, I tried non-native speaking classes, which was helpless, some Italian girls' poor English just make me feel confidential to speak but not help my English level.
My English might not be excellent for living there, but fair enough. ( academically, I don’t' need a high level of English to do my major, but I got really a good marks in the entry of High education examination In China. well, it seems I am stepping backwards T_T)
In my opinion, the native could speak well, that's bcs they are native. As a foreigner, making local understand what you are saying about and few accent, which is enough to feel confidential to speak.
I don't understand why some of my frds just say that they are too shamed to speck in English because they don't speak well.
One of my supervisors, who speaks in a northern Britain accent, which hardly make me understood.
I guess neither of my Chinese frds' Eng would be less understandable compare with him.
Still, I hardly find my frd speaks in English. For me I just speaks when I work and teach Mandarin and in few other situations, like dealing with landlord.
Limited chances to practise when you do not do any social life like pub, club as locals, as life does not require you to.
Anyway, about communication, it is really doesn't much matter about how well to explain yourself, but how much you are wiling to.
If you don speak, how could others know whether you are good at or not, and how could you expect to improve English?
mb a little bit subjective (and lots of spelling and grammar mistakes T_T)
all the above thing is not the main idea when I typed the title. -_-!!! Never mind!

About the joke thing.
I could hardly to understand a joke telling from a local's mouth.
Well, as a good manner girl, I guess it's better to say something even you don't know what other's talking about.
But which always make me into a dilemma or embarrassed.
Mb just giggling is enough and mb just smiling?
In a side, I would like to communicate with locals or internationals, meanwhile, in the other side, I really confused about how to respond about the jokes.
I know, sometimes I do make silly mistakes, such as wrong name, wrong words and on and on.
However even when I am aware that sth is a joke, I still show an improper facial expression or respond with improper words.
Er.... .... o_ob
my previous education experience never teaches me how to do in that circumstance
WELL, I will know anyway from the living experience eventually.
I AM such an idiot! -_-|||
(spelling checked a little bit :-))

Yes, that\'s the point: when your grammar become worse, your brain tends to get rid of all the restrictions of logic, which is the beginning of your REAL improvement of a new language, English.
Don\'t think, just talk.
By the way, English joke is the ultimate test for your true awareness of your second language. It is a very high level thing anyway, don\'t ignore it.
And you really need to check your spelling... :P
